GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP – Stockton University and Bacharach Institute for Rehabilitation are inviting cancer survivors to participate in a research study examining the impact of an education and movement awareness/relaxation program on cancer survivors who suffer from chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN).

Participants will learn a various strategies to manage some of the negative side effects associated with chemotherapy.

Many cancer survivors who received chemotherapy may experience neuropathy, with symptoms that may include pain, numbness, or tingling in the hands and feet. Neuropathy can be quite stressful and can also cause difficulty with sleep, anxiety, fear of falling, and the ability to walk or exercise.

The purpose of this study is to explore the impact of a yoga-based program to improve pain and quality of life in cancer survivors who have had chemotherapy.

To qualify for this study, participants must meet the following criteria:

  •   Cancer survivor with diagnosed peripheral neuropathy (pain, numbness or tingling) in hands and feet due to chemotherapy;
  •   Visit with oncologist within the previous 6-month period and free of disease by clinical examination and history;
  •   Able to understand written English;
  •   Symptoms from chemotherapy;
  •   Willingness to adhere to all study-related procedures including randomization to one of the two possible conditions: yoga or education classes.

A short medical history will be taken including information such as current medications, past surgeries and present activity level.

This study is free to participants. There will be 16 sessions of yoga group experiences led by Robyn Tiger, MD, C-IAYT, RYT.
