VENTNOR – Middle school students who had no discipline referrals and good behavior throughout the school year played games and had fun during the Ventnor Middle School’s 11th annual Super Extravaganza.

The event held Monday June 18 on the grounds outside the middle school included inflatable games, a dunk tank, rock painting, chocolate pie and watermelon eating contests and karaoke.

Students made the rounds and received tickets for winning games, which they used to “purchase” carnival trinkets, stuffed animals and inflatable toys. A favorite was an inflatable monkey. They enjoyed cheese burgers and Mexican pizza cooked up on the grill, soft pretzels, water ice and had their choice at a penny candy table.

Not a frown was seen during the event.

Sixth grade language arts teacher Kristin Aponte who enlisted the help of teachers to organize the party said the event is designed to reward good behavior.

The Greater Absecon Island VFW Post 215 donated the funds to pay for the inflatables, and local businesses donated products and funding. The Ventnor Police Department and Fire Department helped out with donations as well.

“This is why we don’t have a juvenile delinquency problem in Ventnor,” Police Chief Douglas Biagi said. “Look at these kids, they’re having a ball. And it all starts here at school.”
