Margate Police

MARGATE – An Atlantic City Police K-9 officer was instrumental in catching a burglar allegedly involved in three incidents in Margate Sunday, Aug. 19.

According to a release, Margate Police received a 911 call from a resident at 6:38 p.m. reporting a burglary in progress at her Gladstone Avenue home. The resident was able to describe the suspect who fled from the home on foot.

When officers arrived to begin a search, dispatchers received a second 911 call reporting a male matching the description of the suspect from the first incident had entered an open garage on Fulton Avenue and tried to steal a bicycle. The homeowner confronted the suspect, who left the bicycle behind and fled on foot.

Minutes later, a third resident flagged down a bicycle officer on Colmar Circle and reported the same suspect was on the front porch attempting to break into the home. The resident told the officer she then saw the suspect trying to break into her vehicle parked outside. When the resident activated the panic alarm to her car, the suspect again fled on foot.

Margate Police set up a perimeter where they believed the suspect might be hiding and contacted the Atlantic City Police Department for K-9 assistance.

Atlantic City Police Officer Pali, his K-9 partner Roxy and Sgt. Adams responded to assist in the search. The male suspect was located nearby hiding in some bushes and he was taken into custody without resistance.

Brahin Shariff Jones, 30, of Atlantic City was arrested and charged with multiple counts of burglary and theft. During a search of the area the following morning, officers located a backpack Jones was carrying that contained items from the initial burglary along with burglary tools and heroin.

Jones was lodged in the Atlantic County Justice Facility. Further charges are pending.
