Ventnor Lawn Fest 2018.

The Ventnor City LawnFest scheduled for tomorrow, Sept. 15, has been postponed until Oct. 28.

Organizer Herbert S. Ushewokunze of Haich Media Group said the “unpredictable” weather was the reason for the postponement.

LawnFest will be held 1-8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, when the forecast calls for “brilliant sunshine,” he said.

“There was a consensus to reschedule, because at the time the decision was made the forecast said  Hurricane Florence could impact us up here,” he said.

Ushewokunze said LawnFest is the first in what he hopes is a series of Endless Summer events to extend Ventnor’s summer season beyond Labor Day.

Modeled after last year’s well-received PorchFest, the event was renamed Lawn Fest. Property owners are invited to turn their front porches, decks or lawns into venues for live musical performances. Festival goers will travel through the city on foot or bicycle touring homes and enjoying music, friendship and refreshments. Performance areas will be marked with a lawn sign and feature a wide variety of genres and artists. Participants are encouraged to bring sunscreen, water, and blanket or lawn chair. The event is free.

The main staging area is in the beach park behind the Ventnor Library where a DJ will spin hits, food trucks will offer tasty treats and arts and crafts vendors will share their handwork. A “grand finale” fireworks display will be held at dusk on the beach at Newport Avenue.

Support from sponsors is still needed, and residents are encouraged to get involved by hosting a musician or band. Some homeowners have already requested certain acts, yet others will be paired with musical acts as they register.
