ATLANTIC CITY – Murphy Writing of Stockton University will present a workshop on “When the Political Becomes Personal” 9:45 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13 at Stockton University Atlantic City, 3711 Atlantic Ave.

Registration is open to anyone interested in writing a personal essay worthy of submitting to the op-ed editors of major publications.

The workshop will benefit both beginning and experienced writers. Following the method that workshop leader Peter E. Murphy, an adjunct professor at Stockton, has developed over 40 years of teaching, participants will discuss successful model essays before starting their own using Murphy’s prompts. They will then share their work in a supportive feedback session.

The program is limited to 12 participants so that each writer can receive direct feedback from Murphy.

Writers will be able to sharpen their focus and turn their opinions into publishable pieces that evoke understanding and empathy from readers. The workshop includes suggestions on how and where to submit their essays.

“There’s a great energy in the room at these programs,” Jackie Huster of Bridgeton said. “The pacing is perfect—just enough time for each prompt. The prompts are creative and thought-provoking. These workshops are always so productive; I leave with so many ideas and pieces to expand upon.”

The $150 tuition includes coffee, lunch, professional development credit and a supportive feedback session. Advance registration is required. For full registration information, visit stockton.edu/murphywriting or call 609-626-3594
