Walgreens Pharmacist Sherri Fulton of Egg Harbor Township gives Longport Mayor Nicholas Russo a flu shot.

MARGATE – All three Downbeach communities collaborated to put on a Health Fair at the Margate Municipal Building Tuesday, Oct. 24. The annual event welcomes municipal employees in Ventnor, Margate and Longport to attend the event to learn how they can maintain their health, eat well and get their annual flu shot.

More than 20 vendors participated in the event, offering information about how to obtain a free heart health screening, where to exercise or get a healthy bite to eat. Participants included the Atlantic County Division of Public Health, AtlantiCare and the NJ Health Benefits program. Santoro Chiropractic offered free chair massages, Walgreens Pharmacy provided flu shots, and Blue Garden Wellness shared tastes of vegan chile and bacon-flavored coconut chips.

The towns use some of their Joint Insurance Fund rebates to fund the event, which included lots of giveaways, raffles, a Zumba class and a DJ. The team distributed insulated stainless steel reusable water bottles.

“Every year we support a cause,” Longport Deputy Clerk Monica Kyle said. “This year, it’s mental health.”

Funds raised from the raffles of a bicycle and fishing gear will go to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, organizer and Margate Chief Financial Officer Lisa McLaughlin said.
