VENTNOR – After more than moderate flooding inundated the city on Saturday, it was cool and breezy, and the sun peeked out a few times during the first-ever Lawn Fest held at locations in Ventnor Sunday, Oct. 28. The event was originally scheduled for Sept. 15 but was cancelled because Hurricane Florence was rolling in.

Herbert S. Ushewokunze of destination marketing company, Haich Media Group, which organized the event modeled after last year’s successful PorchFest, said there were some cancellations due to the unnamed storm on Saturday that flooded many streets, especially in the Ventnor Heights section.

“One family cancelled because of the flu,” he said.

Bands played throughout the day at the Newport Avenue gazebo, while a few bands played at homes in the Heights. Some homeowners offered refreshments to those who showed up on their lawns to enjoy a variety of musical genres.

Thirteen bands signed up, but only 11 showed up to play the various venues.

“There were concerns about the weather that forced some cancellations, but we went with it and it’s off to a good start,” Ushewokunze said.

A DJ joined a VJ to show music videos on the big screen set up in the park behind the Ventnor Community Building. A fireworks display capped the music festival at dusk.
