Downbeach Express, Margate bridge and causeway.

MARGATE – Additional mechanical work will require the closure of Downbeach Express 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Thursday, Nov. 12-15.

Last month, the Margate Bridge Company completed some repairs to bridge mechanical equipment at the movable bridge over Beach Thorofare. That work required the closure of the roadway from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. for several nights over the course of two weeks in late September. During the course of that work, engineers identified some additional mechanical work to the bridge structure. This new work will require an additional four nights of closure in mid-November in the same manner as was done previously.

The bridge and causeway will be closed to traffic overnight 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. from Nov. 12 to Nov. 15. The bridge will reopen a 6 a.m. Friday, Nov. 16.

The company will observe applicable standards for traffic safety by blocking the roadway in each direction and provide message boards to alert motorists, who are encouraged to seek other routes during the closure periods. At 6 a.m. each morning the roadway will be cleared of all road barriers and construction equipment and materials so normal two-lane traffic may resume. No work will occur from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. so normal traffic patterns will prevail.

There will be no interruption to boat traffic in the channel during this work.
