LONGPORT – American Legion Post 469 honored four deceased veterans at its annual Veterans Day ceremony held in Thomas B. Reed Park at the foot of the Longport Bridge.

The Jersey Girls, a branch of the Sweet Adelines International, sang the national anthem and God Bless America.

The veterans honored included Edward Harty, who served in the U.S. Navy; Cpl. Jack Bronstein of the U.S. Marine Corps; and Peter O’Donnell and Samuel Schapire of the U.S. Army. Family members of the deceased veterans helped lay engraved pavers at the base of the veterans monument.

The legion recognized the birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps, which was formed on Nov. 10, 1775, and the 100th anniversary of the armistice that ended World War I, often referred to as the “war to end all wars.”
