MARGATE – Lucy the Elephant, Margate’s beloved and world famous pachyderm, will not be affected by the partial shutdown of the federal government. Although Lucy is honored and proud to be one of the 2,600 National Historic Landmarks in the United States, she receives no federal funding and therefore is not affected by the partial shutdown.

Lucy’s holiday week hours are 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Monday, Dec. 24; closed Christmas Day; 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, Dec. 26-28; 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 29-30; and 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday, Dec. 31. Lucy will be closed New Year’s Day.

Lucy’s year-end clearance sale begins Wednesday and runs through New Year’s Eve.

Lucy’s winter schedule begins Saturday, Jan. 5. Hours are 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday during January, February and March. She will be open 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 18 for President’s Day.
