Shirley Mae Run and Michael J. Walk

ATLANTIC CITY – The 17th annual Shirley Mae Run and Michael J. Walk will be held on the Boardwalk in front of the Tropicana Casino and Resort on Saturday, May 11.

The race features a 5K run, a 2-mile walk, and a kid’s fun run. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m.; the 5K run and 2-mile walk both kick off at 9:10 a.m.; and the kids’ fun run follows at 10 a.m. Teams or groups are encouraged to participate. Those who prefer to sleep in while others run or walk can participate and receive a free T-shirt.

A Breakfast of Champions for breast and pancreatic cancer survivors will be held at 7:30 a.m. followed by an inspirational opening ceremony with survivors at 8:30 a.m. The Survivor Award will be presented to the top three survivors who finish the 5K.

Proceeds benefit the Shirley Mae Breast Cancer Assistance Fund, the Michael J. Neustadter Pancreatic Cancer Fund and Gilda’s Club of South Jersey.The money will go directly to patients and families in need of financial and emotional support as well as to research facilities dedicated to finding a cure for cancer.

The Shirley Mae Breast Cancer Assistance Fund began in 2000 with a gift from Atlantic City businessman and philanthropist Roy Goldberg, who created the fund after experiencing the determination and inspiration of his mother, Shirley Mae Goldberg, a breast cancer survivor. The Michael J. Neustadter Pancreatic Cancer Fund was created in memory of Michael Neustadter in recognition of his courageous battle and determination to beat the disease. And Gilda’s Club of South Jersey works to empower people impacted by cancer.
