Marlene May of South Jersey Players paints sea shells to raise money for the acting troupe.

VENTNOR – South Jersey Players will be producing four short plays, featuring local playwrights Heidi Mae, Sondra Mandel, Tom Chin and Ed Shakespeare, at Ventnor Coffee, 108 N. Dorset Ave. during the summer months.

The actors have been cast through an open audition and include several actors from Ventnor and Margate.

The first read-through of all the plays will be held 5:30 p.m. Thursday May 18 on the second floor of the Ventnor Library, 6500 Atlantic Ave. After that, the plays will be rehearsed independently at various locations. The casts of all four plays will come together to rehearse at Ventnor Coffee closer to the show dates.

Show dates at Ventnor Coffee are 7 p.m. June 28 and 29 and 3 p.m. June 30. The troupe will also perform at Jersey Fringe in Hammonton Aug. 2-4.
