Margate Players 2, a community theater group that puts on performances at the Dominick A. Potena Performing Arts Center during the summer, will present “Singin’ in the Rain Jr.” 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, May 30, 31 and June 2, with a matinee performance 2 p.m. Saturday, June 1.

Based on the screenplay by Betty Comden and Adoph Green with songs by Nacio Herb Brown and Arthur Freed, the show takes the audience through the days of silent film into the “talkies” with fabulous songs including, “All I Do is Dream of You,” “Make ‘Em Laugh,” “Moses Supposes,” “Good Morning,” “Broadway Melody” and “Lucky Star.”

Under the direction of Amy Evans, with musical direction by Debbie Roland and choreography by Malanie Brown, the show is performed by 64 talented local and regional youths, ages 8 to 18. The troupe started practicing after school on April 17 and have been conducting dress rehearsals for the last week.

In addition to the famous, “Singin’ in the Rain,” Gene Kelly dance routine in the movie version of the play, one of the most spectacular numbers includes all 64 cast members in yellow slickers twirling umbrellas.
