LONGPORT – On Friday, June 21, it was Franks with Officer Frank, the first in a series of community policing events designed to interact with the public, including year-round and seasonal residents and their families. Several Longport Police officers, including Officer Frank Lupperger, were on hand for the event, which included music provided by Longport Beach Patrol Lt. J.J. Walsh, also know and DJ JJ Walsh.
“Any event where the officers from the police department and the public can interact is a win in our eyes,” said Lupperger, the Police Department’s community policing liaison.
The summer series include movie nights, a Police Department open house, school supply drive, baseball clinic and more.
“It is the goal of the Community Policing unit and the officers of the Longport Police Department to create an atmosphere of trust between the citizens of the community and their police department. This trust will strengthen bonds and ensure a better quality of life for everyone who lives and visits the Borough of Longport,” police said in a release.
The lineup of events include:
- July 4, 10 a.m. to noon – Open house at the Police Department, 2305 Atlantic Ave., say hello and enjoy a pretzel
- July 6, 6-8 p.m. – Cool off with a Cop, 35thand Atlantic Ave., rree water ice, water bottles and a cop in a dunk tank
- July 20, 9 p.m. – Summer movie event behind Borough Hall, 2305 Atlantic Ave. See “The Goonies,” bring your own beach chair or blanket
- July 21 through Aug 21 – School supply drive, drop off school supplies at the boxes located in Borough Hall, the library and Police Dept. lobby
- July 24, 6:30-7:30 p.m. – Operation Conversation at the Longport Public Library, 2305 Atlantic Ave., talk with Longport Police about issues of concern and enjoy some light refreshments
- Aug. 3, 9-11 a.m. – Hearts Behind the Badge, 35thand Atlantic avenues, youth basketball clinic by Ptl. Slattery, a full-scholarship Division I athlete at LaSalle University
- Aug. 10, 8:30 p.m. – Summer movie event behind Borough Hall, 2305 Atlantic Ave., see the Disney movie, “Moana,” bring your own beach chair or blanket
- Aug. 14, 6:30-7:30 p.m. – Operation Conversation at the Longport Public Library, 2305 Atlantic Ave., talk with Longport Police about issues of concern and enjoy some light refreshments
