MARGATE – Sweet Apple, Ohio will never be the same. Drafted into the U.S. Army, pop icon Conrad Birdie’s last goodbye before his two-year military stint includes planting a kiss on one of his biggest fans for all the world to see.

The hit Broadway musical comedy, “Bye Bye Birdie,” will be presented at Margate’s Dominick A. Potena Performing Arts Center, 7804 Amherst Ave., 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, June 27-29 and 2 p.m. Sunday, June 30.

The fun and entirely entertaining production, based on the book by Michael Stewart with music by Charles Strouse and lyrics by Lee Adams, includes hit songs that have become standards, including “Put on a Happy Face,” “How Lovely to be a Woman,” “One Last Kiss,” and “One Boy.”

The cast includes children and adults of the region under the direction of Donald Toal Jr., with musical direction by Debbie Roland and choreography by Malanie Brough.

The show is double cast, with different actors playing the roles on Thursday and Saturday, and Friday and Sunday. Actors in the leading roles include Nate Goudie and Jason Pittner as Albert Peterson, Victoria Robertson and Luisa Rivera as Rose Alvarez, and Chris Robertson and Billy Flynn as Conrad Birdie. Brian Vigue is a hoot in a brief appearance as Ed Sullivan.

General admission tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for students and seniors and may be purchased at the door.

This is the second in the summer theater group’s lineup for 2019. “Once on This Island Jr.” will be presented July 18-20.
