Longport Historical Society Museum

LONGPORT – The Longport Historical Society Museum will be holding its annual Independence Day weekend open house 5-7 p.m. Friday, July 5. The museum is located at 2305 Atlantic Ave., next to Borough Hall.

Founded by local historian, the late Michael Cohen, the museum includes 10 rooms filled with artifacts of local history compiled by the Longport Historical Society members, including the 1882 Room of Longport’s first families, the Storm Room with photos from the Hurricanes of 1944 and 1962 and Hurricane Sandy, the Betty Bacharach Room and the Map Room.

The Flying Nun

The building, a former 1939 Coast Guard Station, served as Borough Hall for 40 years and has been placed on the New Jersey and National Historic Registers.

The public is invited to tour the building and enjoy some refreshments.
