VENTNOR – The Ventnor City Beach Patrol will be holding its annual Junior Lifeguard Training Course Monday through Friday, July 8-12 on the beach in front of Lifeguard Headquarters on Suffolk Avenue.

The course is for boys and girls, ages 6-13 years old, and includes instruction in water safety, rescue techniques, teamwork, sportsmanship and more. Swimming, practice rescues, light running and calisthenics will take place every day, 10:30 a.m. to noon. Rowing will be offered later in the week depending on weather and surf conditions.

The program will describe what being a lifeguard entails, such as protecting bathers and keeping people safe, and how to safely enjoy a day at the beach.

The week will concludes on Friday with final age-group competitions in the beach run, surf dash, and beach flags events. Awards will be presented and participants will enjoy a barbecue and refreshments.

Registration fee is $10. Applications are available at http://www.ventnorcity.org/NewsDetails.aspx?EventID=1036. Completed applications can be dropped off at Beach Patrol Headquarters before training begins.
