LONGPORT – The Board of Commissioners recognized two local youths Wednesday, July 24 for their artistic talents and designing beach tags for the summer 2019 season.

Mayor Nicholas Russo presented certificates to Mary Kate Casey and Matthew Sheridan for submitting the winning artwork used on this year’s senior and regular seasonal beach tags.

Mary Kate’s design was used for the senior citizen tag. The design included a beach scene with a dolphin jumping out of the water and Longport’s iconic smiley face water town in the background.

Matthew’s lifgeuard stand design was used for the regular seasonal beach tag. His design paid tribute to the Longport Beach Patrol for winning the annual South Jersey Lifeguard Championship, he said.

Every spring, the borough holds the children’s art contest, which are voted on by the public. They each received a free beach tag for the season.
