LONGPORT – Members of the community brought their furry friends to the Church of the Redeemer Sunday, Aug. 18 for the annual “Blessing of the Animals.”

Although the blessings for “all creatures great and small” are normally bestowed on the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, this year on Oct. 4, the church is only open for services during the summer months.

Dozens of dogs in all sizes and shapes, one skittish kitty cat and a young and very well behaved goat got a sprinkling of holy water and a blessing. Their presence was a delight to other pet parents and officials of the historic church.
