VENTNOR – Can’t drive anymore? Over 60 and living in Ventnor?  You are invited to use the Ventnor Senior Transportation Service every weekday between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to take you to various locations in Ventnor, Margate, and Longport and then take you home again.

“Most riders are going to the market, doctor’s appointments, beauty salon, post office, the bank, the JCC, or the senior center,” said Melinda Kaplan, who coordinates the service. “We encourage you to call 609-609-823-7994 the day before you want to go and leave a detailed message.”

The important part of this service is that the dispatchers and the drivers are are volunteers.

“Many of them have been doing this for years and enjoy the work.” Kaplan said.

However, when the summer season comes to a close, several of the volunteers head to Florida to beat the cold, she said.

“We are always looking for new helpers, especially drivers,” she said.

The shuttle buses are provided by Atlantic County and can hold 8-12 passengers.  No special CDL license is required to drive. Volunteers serve only one weekday morning from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

“Please, if you have the time and the interest, join our team” she said.

For more information or to volunteer, call 609-823-7994 and leave a message.
