ATLANTIC CITY – Learn about the beauty and wonder of New Jersey’s coastal zones and ecosystems at Stockton University’s second annual Coast Day being held 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13 at the Stockton University Academic Center, 3711 Atlantic Ave.
This free, family-friendly event will feature interactive exhibits, art, and lectures by local experts. Stockton faculty, staff and students will also be on-site showcasing current and former coastal research projects. It is a must-experience event for anyone concerned about the marine environment. WAYV Radio will be broadcasting on site in the morning.
The Coast Day program schedule includes:
10:30 – 11 a.m. – “Marine Science Research at Stockton” with Mark Sullivan, associate professor of marine science
11-11:30 a.m. – “Clamdigger’s Trade: Pine Barrens Employments in Support of Sea-Coast Activities” with Mark Demitroff, adjunct faculty and affiliate of South Jersey Culture and History Center
11:30-12 p.m. – “Art/Science Collaborations that Did Not Drive Us Mad” with Mariana Smith, associate professor of art
12-12:30 p.m. – “Beaches and Buildings Tour of A.C.” with Levi Fox, adjunct faculty, and special guest Enoch “Nucky” Johnson
1-1:30 p.m. – Stockton Poll on Climate Change and Coastal Issues hosted by John Froonjian, interim executive director of the William J. Hughes Center for Public Policy at Stockton.
1:30-2 p.m. – “What Happens to a Beach During a Storm?” with Kim McKenna, Stockton Coastal Research Center senior project manager and director of sponsored programs.
2-2:30 p.m. – “Paddle for the Edge: Using Citizen Science to Monitor Shorelines” with Emily Pirl of the Barnegat Bay Partnership
2:30-3 p.m. – Art contest winners announced
