Jersey Shore Knitting Guild Co-presidents Bev Bromley and Liz Slater get ready to remove knitted items from the display case at the Ventnor Library.

VENTNOR – The Jersey Shore Knitting Guild that meets monthly at the Ventnor Library held its annual Knit Out event Saturday, Oct. 19. Guild members, who have been keeping others warm for more than 25 years gathered to knit hats, scarves and lap robes for charity.

Timing for the event, which is usually held in March, was changed to October to ensure knitted goods are available for distribution to various charities before the gift-giving season. About 25 women showed up for the marathon knitting event, but many more are members of the guild.

“It’s been more than 25 years since the Knit Out started, guild Co-President Liz Slater said. “We changed the date to better serve the community.”

Children and adult hats and scarves will be brought to the Community FoodBank of New Jersey Southern Branch in Egg Harbor Township for distribution. Lap robes and prayer shawls will be sent to the Vineland Veterans Home. Knitted items will also be brought to Epiphany Lutheran Church in Pleasantville, Gateway Daycare in Atlantic City and United Methodist Community Center in Ocean City, Slater said.

Co-president Beverly Bromley invited knitters to join the group, which meets on the first Thursday of the month at the library.
