MARGATE – The city opened the holiday season Saturday, Nov. 30 with a citywide shopping extravaganza, rack sales and a new twist on an old favorite – a holiday parade on the avenue.

The Margate Business Association held its annual Shop Local, Shop Small complete with a community parade from Washington Avenue to Essex Avenue where children enjoyed a block party filled with fun games and activities.

Local business owners were invited to decorate a store rack with a theme and wheel it up Ventnor Avenue to Bocca Coal Fired Grill. There, children enjoyed some pizza to go along with their face painting and crafts.

Colmar Home Center had blow-up games, including a giant Velcro bulls-eye, Hula-hoop toss and other fun kids games.

The event is designed to encourage residents and visitors to shop local on the day after Black Friday. Monday is Cyber-Monday when shoppers will purchase gifts online, and Tuesday is Giving Tuesday, where families and support their favorite non-profit organization. Wallets can rest on Sunday.
