VENTNOR – Specatators lined the parade route to enjoy the biggest and best holiday parade the city has ever seen.

Facebook blew up following the fourth annual Twilight Holiday Parade held along Ventnor Avenue Saturday, Dec. 8. Posters agreed that the hype behind this year’s parade was well warranted, and they thanked the city for creating such a festive holiday tradition.

The “just in case” date was not needed because the weather, although a bit on the chilly side, was just perfect for a winter parade.

The parade included bagpipers, Mummers, marching bands, holiday characters, live animals, local choirs, and political figures from local, county, state and federal governments.

Since the parade was held on Pearl Harbor Day, organizers honored all branches of the military, and the U.S. Coast Guard provided the color guard.

Police and fire companies joined Public Works and the ACUA to decorate their trucks and rescue boats, while children in the local schools sang their hearts out aboard floats.

Perhaps the most enjoyable part of the parade was seeing Santa arrive aboard a Ventnor City Beach Patrol surf boat.

A block party was held at the end of the parade route on Troy Avenue.

Organizer Shelly D’Orazo said the parade committee worked for months to secure parade units, which totaled more than 60 this year.
