ATLANTIC CITY – Police arrested a Ventnor man Sunday, Jan. 12 after police responded to a large fight with gunshots fired.

According to a release from Atlantic City Police, officers responded to the 2400-block of Fairmount Avenue at 3:14 a.m. to find more than 20 people involved in a fight where gunshots were fired.

Officers arrived to clear the area and were told that a man had fired a gun into the air during the altercation. Evidence of gunfire was confirmed and officers began searching for the suspect.

With the assistance of witnesses, the suspect, Jesus Silva, 24, of Ventnor was located and arrested at Florida and Fairmount avenues. He was not in possession of the handgun at the time of his arrest, but a search of the area conducted by Officer Fitzroy Simpson revealed the handgun inside a trash can on Turnpike Road.

Silva was charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

He was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
