VENTNOR – Two local businesses, Carisbrooke Café and Mento’s South Philly Italian Ice will merge into North Beach Cafe & Creamery, owners John Battista and Agnes Debicz announced Tuesday in a release. The new café is expected to open spring 2020 and will feature favorite dishes including home baked scones, fluffy blueberry pancakes, home made ice cream and water ices and more.

The new North Beach Cafe & Creamery restaurant will be located at Atlantic Avenue and Little Rock and will be open year round with indoor seating up to 40 guests.

“My husband and I as well as our dog, Colby are huge fans of both Mentos Ice Cream and the Carisbrooke Café,” Debicz said in the release. “Colby’s favorite flavor is vanilla soft serve.”

“We are eagerly awaiting the grand opening at their new location in North Beach,” said Brenda Dowd, owner of Makt Arts Studio and Gift Shop.

Battista opened the Carisbrook Inn bed and breakfast in 2003, which he expanded to 18-rooms.

“Hospitality is very engrained in the Italian culture and is in our blood,” said Battista, whose family was originally from Bari, Italy. His business partner, Debicz is originally from Poland and has perfected her home-baked scones, cinnamon buns, pies and more.

“I have enjoyed Mento’s ice cream and Carisbrooke Cafe for many years,” patron Sandy Reiss said. “The creative culinary flair is not only delicious tasty and original but a mandatory destination at the beach. Taste is primary but how you are treated is what makes you want to go there.”

According to the release, North Beach Cafe & Creamery will serve the best of Mento’s and Carisbrooke Cafe, and provide a place for Jersey Shore visitors to gather and enjoy a unique blend of homemade treats, including ice cream, water ice, scones, muffins and cinnamon rolls. The micro-bakery will serve made to order breakfasts, fresh salads and sandwiches, and its homemade waffle sundae made from a 100-year-old waffle recipe.

The place will be open year-round.
