While the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 rose by 38 today to a total of 1,602 countywide, Atlantic County health officials also reported 60 additional residents have been cleared as recovered bringing that total to 411.
Sadly, the county also confirmed the deaths of 10 more residents of long-term care facilities who all had pre-existing conditions that put them at higher risk for complications from coronavirus. They included four Galloway Township residents, a 71-year-old man and three women ages 81, 88 and 95; a 90-year-old Northfield woman; two 92-year-old Linwood women; an 87-year-old Egg Harbor Township man; and two Hammonton men, ages 84 and 90. To date, there have now been 96 fatalities related to COVID-19.
The 38 new positives were identified among 21 men, ages 16-80, and 17 women, ages 28-91.
Seven new cases were confirmed in Atlantic City, six in Galloway Township and Pleasantville, and four in both Egg Harbor Township and Hammonton. Northfield had three new positives, while Egg Harbor City and Hamilton Township each had two. One new case was found in Absecon, Buena Borough, Somers Point and Ventnor.
Atlantic County will continue its drive-thru testing on Thursday, May 14, by appointment only for symptomatic county residents with a doctor’s prescription, proof of residency and appointment confirmation. Appointments are available 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and can be made online at www.aclink.org. All testing is conducted behind the Hamilton Mall in Mays Landing.
Those who are unable to keep their appointments are asked to cancel so that others will have an opportunity to be tested.
