Atlantic Cape will hold a virtual graduation Thursday, June 11.

MAYS LANDING – In an unprecedented year with the COVID-19 pandemic, it is of paramount importance to Atlantic Cape Community College to celebrate the Class of 2020 graduates for their achievements and hard work. With input from students, faculty, and staff, the college has designed a virtual graduation, which will take place live 6 p.m. Thursday, June 11 on YouTube, Facebook and the Atlantic Cape website, atlantic.edu. The event will include all the pomp and circumstance of a traditional ceremony with keynote speakers, graduate name announcements and a customized dedicated slide for each graduate.

“By using technology, we can connect with our graduates safely and innovatively,” said Atlantic Cape President Barbara Gaba. “This is an exciting opportunity for graduates to participate and be recognized. Our students have worked so hard to get to graduation day, and we want to honor that dedication in the best way possible, given the current circumstances.”

Atlantic Cap invites students hold remote viewing parties with their families and friends and encourages graduates to share their photos and videos on social media using #AtlanticCape2020. Photos if their time at Atlantic Cape can be emailed to media@atlantic.edu.

During the virtual ceremony, each graduate will be recognized with the announcement of their full name, academic program, degree, honors and distinctions. Graduates will also get a chance to share a personalized quote, photo and 12-second video announcement.

Dr. Gaba will providing a welcoming address and Atlantic Cape graduate and veteran Dennis Kelly will deliver the commencement speech. Kelly currently serves as the senior vice-president and chief enrollment officer at Wilmington College. There will also be speeches by Student Government Association President Joelle Motley and remarks by the high honors student Madison Conway.

In addition to the ceremony, the graduating class is invited to walk with fall graduates in a traditional commencement planned for Dec. 5 at Harrah’s Atlantic City. Nursing graduates will also be recognized with a formal pinning ceremony this fall.
