The Miss’d American Pageant scheduled for September has been cancelled.
ATLANTIC CITY – The Miss’d America Organization has announced it is canceling the 2020 Miss’d America Pageant, which was scheduled to take place in the Mark G. Etess Arena at Hard Rock Casino Hotel in Atlantic City on Sept.12.
FiFi DuBois was Miss’d America 2016.
“While this decision was not an easy one to make, it is the only course of action we can take,” Co-founders John Schultz and Gary Hill said in a release. “The safety of our guests, contestants, musicians, and crew was our primary concern in making the decision to cancel this year’s pageant
They created the Miss’d America Pageant in the mid-1980s as an “all in good fun” spoof of the Miss America Pageant. From its humble beginnings on the outdoor stage of the now defunct Studio Six complex to the stage of the Phillips Ballroom at Jim Whelan Historic Boardwalk Hall and then to the iconic Hard Rock Casino Hotel, the pageant has been a platform for diversity and equality. It shined a spotlight on drag queen performers throughout the country.
The hilariously campy pageant has generated close to a $500,000 for local, regiona, and national LGBTQ+ charities.
“Because of the coronavirus pandemic, which is far from over, we really had no choice but to cancel this year’s pageant,” pageant Executive Producer Richard Helfant said. “This decision was made in concert with Hard Rock who have been a tremendous supporter of the LGBTQ+ community. We look forward to working on Miss’d America 2021 with Joe Lupo and his amazing team at Hard Rock.”
No date has been set for the 2021 event, but it will likely be held in September 2021.
