Margate Community Church Blessing of the Animals 2019.

MARGATE – Oct. 4 is the feast of St Francis of Assisi who lived in Italy more than 800 years ago. He is most known for his generous spirit, ministering to the leper colony and his love of animals.

The Margate Community Church will hold its annual Blessing of the Animals 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4 outdoors due to COVID-19 pandemic. The event will be held on the Sumner Avenue side of the church, which is located on Ventnor Avenue.

Families are encouraged to bring their well-behaved pets for a brief service and individual blessings of the animals. The service includes a moment of silence to remember all the dogs involved in sport fighting, puppy mills and other inhumane, unethical treatments.

If you cannot bring your pet, just bring a picture to receive a blessing.

The event is free and open to the public. Raindate is Oct. 11.
