Margate Community Church Pastor Vicky Ney blessed all the animals Sunday, Oct. 4.

MARGATE – A couple dozen much loved fur babies received blessings Sunday, Oct. 4 at the second annual Margate Community Church Blessing of the Animals.

Pastor Vicky Ney held a brief service on the lawn outside the church to remember animals who have been abused or killed. She read a passage from the Book of Genesis that said in the beginning, God created all living creatures and “God saw that it was good.” Then God created humans to care for them.

Those who attended brought their dogs, including two sibling Corgis, a cat, bunny, bright green parrot and a grey bird.

The ceremony was not without a little excitement as a neighbor’s dog rushed out of his house unleashed as his sitter rushed after him trying to calm down the animal. Luckily, a woman who brought her parrot to the service had an extra leash in her car and was able to tether the dog and bring him back to his house.

Rev. Ney they blessed every animal individually, wishing them a long and happy life filled with healthy food, a warm place to curl up and the love of their master.
