Longport water tower

LONGPORT – A contractor working on the installation of a well at the Public Works yard at 31st and Devon avenues will work until 10 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, the borough announced on its website.

The work is part of Phase 2 of the borough’s upgrade to the water and sewer system. Phase 1 included obtaining permits from the NJDEP and Phase 3 will include building a well house and Public Works office.

Residents are advised there will be construction noise until 10 p.m. Additional late construction days will be announced on the borough’s website, longport-nj.us.

A.C. Schultes, Inc. of Woodbury was awarded a $681,450 contract to construct the well at a depth of 800 feet.

The Board of Commissioners waived the borough’s noise ordinance in February to allow work to proceed beyond regular construction work hours. The extra time is needed to avoid cave-ins and well drilling failures.
