MARGATE – Every year Earth Day is celebrated around the world for everyone to contemplate the Earth, its resources and it’s fragility. This year’s theme for Earth Day is “Restore Our Earth.”

To honor Earth Day, The Margate Business Association and Sustainable Margate teamed up to celebrate Earth Day 2021 with a poster contest and “Find the Duck Scavenger Hunt”.

The Margate Business Association and Sustainable Margate understand the importance that barrier islands have with its wetlands on one side and the ocean on the other. Both are vital by not only providing recreation but also their essential roll in supporting wildlife. It is important they are properly protected and nurtured.

To help share this message, the MBA and Sustainable Margate held a poster contest to get the children’s perspective on their view and how we can protect the environment. These posters are now on display at many Margate shops and restaurants.

On Saturday April 24, a Find the Duck Scavenger Hunt will take place between noon and 2 p.m.  Small ducks will be hidden in plane sight around the Margate business districts with an environmental message tucked inside each one, along with a coupon for a free slice of pizza from Bocca’s Coal Fired Bistro.

At the same time, Sustainable Margate will have a table set up in front of Bocca where you can see some displays and learn more about the environment. Check your knowledge with the ecology quiz and earn a chance to win a Wawa coupon.

All local, state, and federal health directives and CDC guidelines regarding COVID will be followed.

Events and programs are subject to change or cancellation.

Earth Day was founded in 1970 as a day of education to build awareness of the fragility of the Earth and to raise awareness of the effect pollution and chemical waste is having on the environment.
