MAYS LANDING – Sheriff’s Detectives Mark Allen, Dalton Rodriguez and Jordan Corona on June 11 arrested a wanted fugitive in the Town of Hammonton after a brief foot pursuit, according to Atlantic County Sheriff Eric Scheffler.

Upon taking the person into custody the individual was placed in the rear of a patrol vehicle and was being transported to the Sheriff’s Office for processing. The subject was initially alert and talking, however, a short time into the transport, he began to slip in and out of consciousness and his breathing became labored.

The officers quickly realized the suspect may have overdosed and immediately administered one dose of Narcan and diverted their route to Atlantic Care Medical Center Mainland Division.  While on route to the hospital, the offices realized the subject was not responding to the first dose of Narcan and administered a second dose, which brought him out of his comatose state to a certain extent.

Upon arrival at the hospital medical personnel administered a third dose of Narcan and a short time later he was alert and conscious.

Scheffler commended the officers for their actions and is certain they saved the person’s life.
