Provided/Fireworks on the beach in Margate.

The Margate City Police Department, in anticipation of the 4th of July fireworks display, is advising of restricted access to certain beaches. Beginning at 8 a.m. Sunday, July 4, the beaches from Iroquois Avenue north to Gladstone Avenue will be closed due to the fireworks being placed onto the Huntington Avenue beach for the display that evening.

The Public Works Department will have snow fencing in place from the bulkhead down to the waters edge to mark out the closed sections on both Iroquois and Gladstone avenues. Beachgoers walking the beach on Sunday attempting to travel pass this area will be redirected to Atlantic Avenue where they can travel safely past the restricted area and return to the beach from another street.

The Police Department and its officers working this detail are aware of the inconvenience this may create for some, but have to consider the safety of everyone first and foremost, Police Chief Matthew Hankinson said in a release.

“We are asking for travelers to plan ahead with these closures in mind. If you need assistance during your travels on Sunday please feel free to ask an Officer for direction. Have a safe and Happy 4th!” he said.
