LONGPORT – The NJ State Police is investigating the discovery of a deceased female in the Great Egg Harbor Inlet at approximately 7:30 a.m. Sunday, July 4.

On Tuesday afternoon, police said identification is pending and no further information is available at this time.

A boater discovered the body about 200 yards from the shoreline. The boater placed a call to Marine Police, who dispatched the Longport Volunteer Fire Department. The fisherman kept the body in view until the Longport’s Marine 3 rescue boat responded to retrieve the body from the water. The body was brought to the fire department’s dock at the rear of Borough Hall and NJ State Police and U.S. Coast Guard responded to the scene.

The investigation is continuing.
