LONGPORT – Atlantic City Police today reported the identity of a woman discovered in the Great Egg Harbor Inlet, Sunday, July 4.

According to a release posted on the department’s Facebook page, Nyuyet Mai, 51, was recovered from the Great Egg Harbor Inlet off of Longport at 7:30 a.m. Sunday morning. A missing persons investigation was being conducted by Atlantic City detectives after Mai was reported missing by her family on June 24.
The New Jersey State Police Major Crimes Unit is investigating her death.

On Tuesday afternoon, NJ State Police said a boater discovered the body about 200 yards from the shoreline. The boater placed a call to Marine Police, who dispatched the Longport Volunteer Fire Department. The fisherman kept the body in view until the Longport’s Marine 3 rescue boat responded to retrieve the body from the water. The body was brought to the fire department’s dock at the rear of Borough Hall and NJ State Police and U.S. Coast Guard responded to the scene.
