Edward Gallant takes the oath of office.

MAYS LANDING – Following his retirement last year, a 25-year veteran FBI agent who served offices in Iraq, Japan, Spain and Mexico, has joined the investigative team at the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Cary Shill announced recently.

Investigator Edward Gallant retired from the FBI last year and last month he was sworn-in as a county investigator at the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.

“The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office is grateful for the opportunity to welcome Investigator Edward Gallant to the ACPO investigatory team. The staff at this agency will benefit from Investigator Gallant’s experience from his 25 years of service with the FBI,” said Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Cary Shill.

Gallant was raised in a Massachusetts police family. His father retired as the chief of the Fitchburg Police Department, and he was also an FBI National Academy graduate, which have Gallant his first exposure to the FBI.

He served in the FBI from 1995 until 2020, where he predominantly investigated robberies, drugs and firearms cases in Philadelphia.  One of his most important and successful assignments was the formation of a drug and illegal firearms task force in Bucks County. In 2008, Investigator Gallant received a Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association bravery award for his role in a shooting incident.

“I was a SWAT team member for 16 years, assistant team leader for eight years, and team leader for two years. One of my final SWAT assignments was leading a team during the seven-week manhunt in the Poconos for FBI Top 10 fugitive Eric Frein,” said Gallant, who was also temporarily assigned to Iraq in 2006, Japan in 2016, and Spain in 2018.

In 2014, he was promoted to Washington, DC and supervised FBI investigations and personnel in Asia. In 2016, he was promoted to run the Atlantic City office of the FBI and in 2018, he was promoted to be the deputy of the FBI Mexico office.  He retired from the FBI Mexico office in 2020.

“We are excited that Investigator Gallant is bringing his passion and expertise to our agency.  Investigator Gallant will be able to share his training and experience with the members of the Detective Division,” Chief of County Investigators Bruce K. DeShields said.

A married, father of three, Investigator Gallant is also a licensed pilot and continues his long struggle to be a fluent Spanish speaker.

“I am extremely proud to join ACPO and reunite with my former law enforcement colleagues here, at very important time of transition in law enforcement,” Gallant said.
