Margate Police recognized for ‘Random Acts of Copness.’

MARGATE – Atlantic County Prosecutor Cary Shill has recognized the Margate Police Department with “Random Acts of Copness” for stepping up last month and giving back to children as they headed back to school.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Random Acts of Copness project shines a spotlight on law enforcement officers from around Atlantic County who are going above and beyond the call of duty in support of their community.

On Aug. 8, Margate Police Officers helped a group of teens from the “Tools for School” initiative as they packed backpacks with school supplies for children in the region.

Margate Police Lt. Jeff Lee, Sgt. Steve Swift, Officers Jessica Fane and Mike Heath, along with Special Law Enforcement Officers Brendan Campbell, Joseph Szapor and Kyle Roscoe, helped prepare 2,000 backpacks for children to start the school year with the tools they need for success.

“It is always a positive experience when our law enforcement and community partners work together with projects in their community,” Chief of County Investigators Bruce K. DeShields said in a release. “A project such as this, that is participated in by officers of the Margate Police Department allows the public and area youth to interact with our law enforcement partners in a harmonious atmosphere.”

Margate Police Chief Matthew Hankinson said community activities like the Tools for School backpack initiative is all a part of a greater effort to involve the community in everything the department does.
