MARGATE – Students from the Eugene A. Tighe Middle School joined fifth grade science teacher Chelsi Crompton for Clean Ocean Action’s annual Beach Sweep held Saturday, Oct 23.

Volunteers from all over the state swept more than 70 beaches, bays and streams to help eliminate ocean pollution, which has a negative effect on marine life.

Margate Recycling Coordinator Anthony Edge distributed clean up supplies and data cards to record items collected from the beach.

Clean Ocean Action will use the data to compile its annual report of trends, its “Dirty Dozen,” the most commonly found items; and its “Roster of the Ridiculous,” the most outrageous items found on the beach.
