Margate Commissioner of Public Safety John Amodeo swears in Joe Costa as a member of the city’s Fire Department, while his fiancee Savannah Dreher holds the Bible.

MARGATE – Commissioner of Public Safety John Amodeo Thursday, Nov. 4 swore-in the Margate City Fire Department’s newest recruit. Firefighter Joe Costa took the oath of office surrounded by his family while his fiancée Savannah Dreher held the Bible.

Amodeo said Costa is ready to serve residents and protect them in their time of need.

A graduate of Rowan University, Costa is currently an active volunteer firefighter in Longport, a fully certified emergency medical technician and comes to the paid fire department fully-trained, Amodeo said. Costa started working as a volunteer in Longport in 2019.

“He’s a rock solid recruit,” Amodeo said.

Fire Chief Dan Adams pins a badge on Costa’s uniform.

Fire Chief Dan Adams said Costa was hired in July and was able to assist before summer’s end.

“It was an easy transition,” Adams said. “He rolled through this process in weeks instead of months.”

Adams said Costa is one of the “happiest, fun-loving people you will come across. There’s never a bad day in Joe’s life.”

He was engaged to Dreher on the same day he was hired, Costa said. They plan to marry in 2022.
