Richard Cohen

Richard Cohen, 93, clinical psychologist, teacher, father, husband, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend to many, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, at home, in the arms of his loving family.

He was born in Philadelphia in 1927 and graduated from Atlantic City High School. At 18, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served in the medical unit in Maryland. After World War II, he attended college and received a master’s degree in psychology from Temple University. In 1953, he became a seventh grade language arts teacher for the Margate public schools.

At that same time, he created Little Indian Day Camp, where he was “Uncle Richie” to hundreds of children over the years. They all loved him. After 1980, he joined Anderson Associates, a management firm, as their resident psychologist, and worked with companies across the country. He was also in private practice as a clinical psychologist for over 55 years in Linwood, where he helped hundreds of people in hundreds of different ways to improve their lives.

Richard was predeceased by his first beautiful wife, Bernice (Bunny) Cohen, who passed in 2003. They enjoyed an amazing and long marriage of 52 years, and had two children, Sandy and Faith. They loved going to Europe and across the United States together. often joined by close friends in their travels.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Anne Kabo, along with his son Sandy, (Chris) Cohen, daughter, Faith (Mike) Frost, grandchildren, Wes (Eriko) Cohen, Alex Abbamondi, and Leah (Devin) Bertoch. He is also survived by great grandchildren, Taiki Cohen, Aria and Paxton Bertoch, and stepdaughter, Sarah Kabo, and stepson, Louis (Janine) Kabo. Also survived by sister, Annette Scott.

Richard lived a full and joyful life, bringing happiness, smiles and peace, to everyone who knew him. He will be sorely missed by so many.

Services are private at the request of the family.
