Live Nativity at the Margate Community Church, Dec. 23, 2021.

MARGATE – The city welcomed the Light of the World, Thursday, with a re-enactment of the Christmas Story. The Margate Community Church held its third annual Live Nativity on the lawn outside the stately brick church on Ventnor Avenue in the Parkway section of the city.

Adults and children of the congregation played the roles of the Holy Family and the Three Wise Men, while angles and shepherds kept their watch over the infant in the manger. The pageant included live barnyard animals.

The spectacle was performed at intervals between 4-6 p.m. amid crisp air and a quietly setting sun. Children were attentive during the live re-enactment, sitting on bails of hay arranged around the corral. The children were invited to come inside the corral to pet the animals between performances.

The event was organized by Betty Nathanson, who assembled the costumes and readied the readers who told the story of the Birth of Jesus Christ. Rob Tucker provided the musical accompanyment.

“This is a beautiful event,” one spectator said. “I come every year.”
