South Jersey is expecting the first snowstorm of 2022.
The National Weather Service has issued a storm watch for the South Jersey area with a potential of 4-6 inches of snow accumulation and wind gusts of 35 miles per hour during the overnight hours Sunday and continuing throughout the day on Monday. A coastal flood watch will also be in effect for portions of Atlantic County.
The heaviest snow, which could fall at rates of up to 1 inch per hour, is expected tomorrow morning and could make the morning commute especially difficult.
Atlantic County officials are monitoring the storm and encourage the public to do the same.
According to a release from the county, roads will be treated and cleared as necessary. However, due to some staffing shortages as a result of holiday travel and an increase in COVID-19 cases and exposures, county Public Works crews may not be at full strength. The first priority will be clearing the major county roadways.
Officials ask the public to be patient while resources are deployed.
Motorists are reminded to remove snow from vehicles before traveling and allow extra time for travel. Proceed with caution on roadways as many may be snow covered at time of travel. Don’t drive through flood waters; water may be deeper than you think.
