LONGPORT – Longport Borough Police Jan. 18 charged an Atlantic City man with the theft of the latest version of the iPhone.
The department was alerted in the early morning hours of suspected fraud. According to the complaint, it appeared as though someone had opened a wireless cell phone account using the complainant’s Pacific Avenue address in an effort to obtain a new iPhone 13 Pro.
Patrol Officers Quinton Wright and Joshua Sikoryak immediately began investigating and worked closely with federal carriers to expedite the investigation, which revealed the suspect would return to the Longport address to retrieve the package. When the suspect arrived at the Pacific Avenue location and grabbed the package from the front steps, he was apprehended by the officers and their supervisor, Sgt. Jamie Silva.
The suspect, later identified as Angel Herasme-Medina, 36, of Atlantic City, was taken into custody and charged with theft, receiving stolen property, and trespassing. Additional charges are pending further investigation.
In compliance with New Jersey bail reform, Herasme-Medina was released on a summons to appear in court.
Package thefts are becoming more common place. Police advise residents to alert their local police department if they detect any suspicious activity. Doorbell cameras and other outdoor surveillance can also be registered with the police department to assist investigations.
