WASHINGTON, D.C. – Spring is the time for high school students to submit artwork for the annual Congressional Art Competition sponsored by members of the U.S. House of Representatives.
The winner of the art contest, which is open to all high school students in New Jersey’s 2nd Legislative District, will have their artwork displayed in the U.S. Capital for one year along with the winners of other contests held across America.
Original two-dimensional, framed artwork is limited in size to 26 by 26 inches and 4 inches deep and should not weigh more than 15 pounds when framed. Paintings in oils, acrylics or watercolors, drawings in pen and ink, pencil, pastels, or markers, two-dimensional collages, lithographs, silkscreened or block prints, mixed media, computer generated art and photographs are acceptable.
The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 to provide an opportunity for members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents. Since then, more than 650,000 high school students have been involved in the nationwide competition.
The deadline to submit artwork is 4 p.m. Friday, April 29.
