Learn how to compost at a seminar hosted by Sustainable Longport, April 19.

LONGPORT – Learn how to properly compost at a special Sustainable Longport seminar being held 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 19 in Commission Chambers at Longport Borough Hall, 2305 Atlantic Ave.

Join Belinda Chester, Master Gardener coordinator at Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Atlantic County. who will discuss the basics of starting a backyard compost bin.

Composting is the process of turning waste into an earthy smelling material that is like a multivitamin for your garden. Compost helps to improve soil structure, hold water to promote healthy root development, and aids in erosion control.

The event will discuss the benefits of composting, dos and don’ts, methods and equipment.
