Longport Beach Patrol Headquarters

LONGPORT – The Longport Beach Patrol will be hosting tryouts for prospective lifeguards 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 11 at Beach Patrol Headquarters 33rd and Atlantic avenues.

Anyone who wants to try out for a position on the Beach Patrol must submit an application and a waiver signed by a physician by the June 4 deadline. Applications can be dropped off Monday through Friday at Longport Borough Hall 6305 Atlantic Ave., or at Beach Patrol Headquarters on the weekends starting Memorial Day weekend.

A mandatory meeting will be held 5 p.m. Friday, June 10 downstairs in the Community Room at Beach Patrol Headquarters. Failure to attend this mandatory meeting will result in being pulled from the tryouts.

The lifeguard test will consist of the following components: 1.1-mile run in under 7 minutes, 30 seconds, quarter mile box swim, quarter mile row, 200 meter paddle, and a run-swim-run (100 meters each). Anyone who does not finish the run in under 7:30 will not be eligible to move onto the next component of the test. All applicants will be scored based on how they chronologically finish in each part of the test.

An alphabetical list of all candidates who passed the tryout will be posted by Monday, June 13. Candidates will be contacted throughout the week of June 13 if they have been selected to begin the interview process.

All candidates who are selected for hire will need to submit to a drug test. All candidates who are hired and are 18 years old or older will need to submit a background check and fingerprints prior to starting work.
