Family friendly bike tour to be held June 5 in Downbeach
VENTNOR – Come ride the wave of yellow shirts into 2022 with the Le Tour de Downbeach “Happy Ride” Saturday, June 5 (rain date June 12).
This year organizers are setting the tone with a smiley faced theme. Starting behind the Ventnor Library, the family ride is a chance to enjoy the beauty of the Downbeach seaside communities. The family friendly 14-mile bicycle tour begins each year in Ventnor and travels through Atlantic City, with a turn around at Kennedy Plaza, then to Margate and Longport and ending with a barbecue at Tomatoe’s Restaurant on Amherst Avenue in Margate.
The first 200 riders receive a Le Tour de Downbeach commemorative T-shirt. Riders get a happy face sticker at the start of the ride, and “Support Ukraine” blue and yellow ribbons will be available to those who want to wear one. The ride ends with a delicious barbeque at Tomatoe’s Restaurant with free water ice provided by Margate Dairy Bar and Burger.
“Le Tour is a great way to kick off the start of summer, one of the happiest times of year and enjoy the biggest family bike ride at the shore,” said Mike Wiesen, volunteer and owner of AAAA Bike Shop in Ventnor. “We look forward to seeing all of our good friends on June 5.”
The family friendly bike ride starts on the boardwalk at Newport Avenue in Ventnor.
The Margate Business Association, Ventnor Business Association, Borough of Longport and the City of Atlantic City collaborate for the annual event, which began as Le Tour de Ventnor in 2008. The event draws hundreds of riders each year.
The event is being sponsored by Tomatoe’s, Margate Dairy Bar and Burger, 95.1 WAYV, Margate Business Association, Ventnor Business Association, Casels, Jalapenos and Salads Co., Jack and Jill Team, KW Jersey Shore, Let’s Face It, The ARC of Atlantic County, Novelli Team COMPASS Real Estate, Congo Falls Miniature Golf.
Pre-registration cost is $25 per rider or $20 each for four or more family riders. Day of ride registration is $30 per rider or $25 each for four or more family riders. Sponsorships are available.
