Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office

MAYS LANDING – The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office has announced that Sgt. Jennifer Cugini graduated from the competitive and challenging New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police Command and Leadership Academy.

“Her work ethic and dedication is second to none,” said Chief of County Detectives Bruce K. DeShields. “She represents this agency with pride and her commitment to excellence is shown through her strong leadership.”

Cugini joined the Prosecutor’s Office in 2009. She was promoted to sergeant in 2019 and currently supervises in the Litigation Section. Cugini has a bachelor’s degree from University of Maryland and a master’s degree from Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia.

DeShields said Cugini was a top performer throughout the 13-week course and received the top final score in the 2021 Southern Region Class, resulting in Cugini receiving the Chief Harry Wilde Academic Excellence Award. Prior Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office winners of the Chief Wilde Academic Award include Sgt. Lynn Dougherty and Lt. Matthew Paley.

The NJSACOP Command and Leadership Program is a cooperative effort between the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police that adapted the acclaimed West Point model of command and leadership to the needs of law enforcement.

The collaboration has morphed into NJSACOP Command and Leadership Academy, a unique blend of theory and application. Candidates with the greatest leadership potential are selected for this highly competitive program from municipal, county, state and federal agencies from throughout the region.
